ENCLAVE HAPPENINGS
The monthly Enclave Board meeting took place this morning, and a good piece of news that was shared with us is that Power Corporation has agreed to pick up the entire cost of installing a 4th well in the community! They were originally going to split the cost with us, so this is a welcome development that will result in a $25,000-30,000 savings to our association. The location of the new well will be in the easement between Golden Eagle and Sandpiper. More info on scheduled start dates, etc as it becomes available.
DO YOU NEED TO SHRED?
No, I’m not talking about skating, surfing, or guitar riffs, but paper shredding. The Enclave will be holding a combination shredding event and hot dog cookout on April 20 at the Mailbox parking lot. BYOB and a side dish to share. More details to come as we get closer. Come for the shredding, stay for a hot dog!
TECHNICALLY SPEAKING
Another topic of discussion at the past two board meetings has been how we communicate and disseminate community information. A few complaints were voiced that those who don’t use computers, email, or the internet are missing out. The Board announced that residents who don’t want to use a computer are responsible for informing themselves about community happenings. Many residents didn’t know that there are bulletin boards outside the clubhouse entrance and at the Enclave mailboxes where important information about meetings and events are printed and posted. There are also occasional classes and seminars lead by community residents that are held at the clubhouse to help those who are still intimidated by a keyboard. I get it. Technology can be intimidating for those of us who were raised with pen and paper, but email and texts are the main ways the world communicates. It’s not going to change, and I applaud the board for not allowing the “tail to wag the dog” on this issue.
LANDSCAPE CONCERNS AND PLANS
It was announced that the irrigation schedule has changed again. We’ve all been encouraged to pay attention to our watering days and report to clem@enclavelsl.com if any issues are noticed. The schedules are posted on the Enclave website, enclavelsl.com. Some asked how we’d know if our sprinklers were coming on if they were scheduled overnight. That’s a good question, but I think there’s a relatively simple solution that doesn’t involve staying up all night: put out a bucket or bin and see if you have accumulated any water the next morning. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done. We’re coming out of the dormant season and into the hotter and hopefully wet growing season. Our lawns should start greening up soon. Some lawns were core soil tested and a chemical imbalance was found that is causing some to stay brown and crunchy. Juniper is correcting as discovered.
Please don’t wait until your grass is nearly dead before you report an irrigation issue! Also, note that as we head into the hot weather, the weeds will be growing very quickly. We get monthly spraying, which really doesn’t contain the problem. Another suggestion is that residents do their own spraying between the Juniper treatments. I have to remind everyone that the landscapers are not anyone’s personal gardeners. They will try to accommodate us, but they might not always have the same crews here, and custom trim and special requests are not guaranteed. It is preferred that residents don’t disturb the landscapers unless there is an outlier situation that needs their immediate attention. We have all been told that this is a “maintenance-free” community, but in truth, we are more low maintenance. Landscaping is our biggest expense, and biggest source of complaints. We all have to be partners with our landscapers to keep the community looking well maintained.

FOUR YEARS AGO THIS WEEK….
We are approaching the infamous anniversary of a world lockdown from COVID. Two weeks to stop the spread turned into two years of the world being upside down, learning losses for our youth, job losses for our adults, growing mistrust among friends, families, and neighbors, growing mistrust of our government institutions, and demonization of those who did or did not want to get vaccinated. In many ways, I still don’t think we’ve fully recovered. Something else we celebrate this upcoming week is St. Patrick’s Day. Everyone’s a wee bit Irish in March, so say a prayer thanking God that you made it through those dark days, say a prayer for those who didn’t, have a green beer or two, and be kind to each other.
